From 16,000 photos, a few of them ought to be worth highlighting.
One of the plates from our 2-michelin starred lunch. It's a garden on a plate, such an exquisite arrangement. The whole menu was a lesson in what a genius can do with food. Incredible!
Arles, France.
Not sure why I like this one so much. He's just cute.
Countryside, Spain.
The Alhambra in Granada. Built centuries ago by Moorish kings. We spent a whole day there exploring the stunning surroundings.
Granada, Spain.
A Portugese king, on the eve of going to war with Spain, made a promise to the Virgin Mary that if his troops won he would build a grand monastery in her honour. Despite being outnumbered 5-to-1, the King was victorious, and this incredible monastery was built (but never finished - in some parts there are just walls without a roof!).
Batalha, Portugal.
We were really lucky to take this photo. We arrived at closing time so there are no other tourists there (the stones are in a field so you don't need to pay anything to see them, but you do pay to get close). Add the sunset colours and it was pretty magic.
Stonehenge, England.
Statue of Neptune. Loved the way the water splashes all over this statue, and Peter captured it pretty well on camera. I have to say, Poland had excellent street art overall. Definitely the most creative town squares, monuments and entertainers.
Gdansk, Poland.
One of many "chapels of the dead". These pop up all over Europe! Long story short, A LOT of people died during the black plague, so towns had an excess of human remains and they needed to make (spiritual) sense of the tragedy. So chapels were made to ask God to end the plague or to thank Him for doing so (funny enough, we didn't see any evidence of anyone blaming Him for starting it in the first place).
Kutna Hora, Czech Republic.
Another photo that I just happen to like. We stayed in a mountain hut in the Swiss alps. We had running spring water but limited (solar) electricity and used fire for all our cooking.
Alps, Switzerland.
Italy has some of the neatest little coastal villages I've ever seen. Peter took this photo by swimming out and pointing the camera back. How cool is it?
Amalfi coast, Italy.
The sun setting on St Peter's basilica. St Peter's was extraordinary. Their collection of artworks is phenomenal (including the genius Michelangelo) and the basilica itself is mesmerising. Of all the places we visited on the trip, the Vatican was the only one we took time to go back to. Not at all what I expected, and very, very special.
Vatican City
(well, technically we were standing in Italy when we took the photo).
